Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic Medicine – “Seeing the Whole Person”
Naturopathic Medicine is based on the belief that the human body has a deep-rooted healing ability. A licensed Naturopathic Doctor (N.D.) is trained as a primary care general practitioner and an expert in natural medicine. An ND will blend effective non-toxic therapies, patient education, and diet & lifestyle suggestions to enhance the body’s vitality and healing capabilities.
Naturopathic medicine strives to find the underlying cause of the patient's illness by looking at all systems and their relationships to the whole. ? Naturopathic Doctors adhere to 6 main principles:
- First Do No Harm
- Find & Treat the Cause
- Treat the Whole Person
- Doctor as Teacher
- Utilize the Healing Power of Nature
- Prevention
A licensed Naturopathic Doctor (N.D.) attends a four-year graduate-level Naturopathic Medical School and is educated in all of the same basic sciences and general specialties as a family practice M.D. Additionally, a licensed N.D. studies holistic and nontoxic therapies with a strong emphasis on disease prevention and optimizing wellness and must take rigorous professional board exams in order to be licensed.
